It was the winter of 2008 when our family left Waiheke Island and our family headed north to Kerikeri searching for a new business to buy or start a fresh.
We did not need to look any further than the beautiful award-winning sub-tropical gardens of Wharepuke to realize the old American Army barrack the Booth family had moved onto the site was perfect for a restaurant and the rest is history.
In the middle of November 2008 we opened our Cafe/Restaurant and our success has exceeded our expectations.
Chef owners, Colin Ashton and Rachael Goldfinch are supported by sets of parents. Bill, Colinʼs dad, is an executive chef of 42 years. His mum Pat is highly qualified at ʻfront of houseʼ. Rachaelʼs Dad is the organic gardner,on site and produces fresh salad greens and micro greens on a daily basis. Rachaelʼs mum Val, is marketing Manager and helps with ʻfront of houseʼ. We surround ourselves with other experienced staff to help make your dining experience the best in Northland.
Colin trained in Wales under his father and then Gary Rhodes in London Having travelled extensively working in Greece, Thailand, The Cayman Islands, and Australia to mention a few. Colin travelled America and Europe with Shania Twain and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers providing food for the stars and their crew.
European and Thai inspired cuisine was chosen because of Colinʼs experience and talent in this field, also winners of this years Cafe awards , Northland’s Best cafe of the year, and the hospitality awards Northlands Matariki awards best cafe of the year.
